Brief Profile of

Prof. David O. Ogbe

Prof. David O. Ogbe, Ph.D., P.E. is the founding Executive Director of Consulting, Research, and Training of Flowgrids Ltd. He is also a visiting Professor of Petroleum Engineering and Head of Department (2015-2019) at the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, Nigeria.  He is Professor Emeritus, University of Alaska. His 35-year experience cuts across academia, research, and the oil and gas industry. He started his petroleum engineering career as an intern with Gulf Oil (Now Chevron), Nigeria, and later worked as a petroleum engineer with the oilfield service company, in Oklahoma City, USA.  He was a Lead Reservoir Engineer with Schlumberger. In academia, Prof. Ogbe was a Professor of Petroleum Engineering, Associate Director of the Petroleum Development (Research) Laboratory, and Coordinator of the Coalbed Methane Research Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA.

He received BS and MS degrees from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Ph.D. from Stanford University, California, USA, all in petroleum engineering. Prof. Ogbe has published 100s of technical papers in his areas of specialization: oil and gas reservoir engineering, well testing, reservoir simulation, reservoir characterization, and formation evaluation, and large-scale reservoir simulation on high-performance computers.

He teaches a continuing education course on geostatistics and reservoir characterization for the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, NAPE (2018-present). Prof. Ogbe was appointed to Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigerian Council Board of Trustees (2017);  received  SPE Rocky Mountain Regional Award in Reservoir Description and Dynamics (2013); he is an SPE Distinguished Member (2009); SPE Distinguished Lecturer (2003-2004); SPE Nigerian Council Service Award(2004); SPE continuing education and short course instructor (since 1996); SPE Formation Evaluation Editorial Board Review Chairman (1994-96); and member of the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists (RMAG). Prof. Ogbe is a registered professional engineer in the USA and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

He has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He is married and blessed with children. His love for reservoir engineering is one octave higher than that for playing Scrabble and computers–triggered after taking his first class in Fortran (1976) and assembly language programming on IBM 360 at LSU in 1977.
