Brief Profile of

Dr Ukauku Ikwan

Engr. Ukauku Ikwan, (PhD), is a visiting Lecturer to Emerald Energy Institute, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He is also a practicing engineer with 30 years of experience in the oil and gas sector and academia with exciting careers spanning across major international oil and gas companies, leading indigenous E&P Company and Nigerian foremost University. These include The Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria Ltd, Total Exploration & Production Nigeria Ltd and Eroton Exploration and Production Ltd. His one-year National Service was with Pipeline and Product Marketing Company, a division of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.  In addition to the above, his early career life was spent in the academia as a lecturer in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Port Harcourt. Through the above, he has made several contributions to the human capital development and to the development of oil and gas sector in exploration, field development and production in Nigeria.

He holds a BEng degree in Petroleum Engineering and an MBA degree in Project Management Technology both from Federal University of Technology Owerri. Also, he holds a MEng degree in Petroleum Engineering and a PhD degree in Petroleum Economics both from University of Port Harcourt. As his PhD thesis, Engr. Dr. Ikwan developed in Emerald Energy Institute, a novel System Dynamic Model for Forecasting Production Capacity and Reserves in Nigeria. This contributed to the body of knowledge by showcasing how Nigeria’s production capacity and reserves growth patterns can be predicted based on system dynamics under different investment scenarios and policies in exploration, development and production, and the prediction of the longevity of the Nigerian oil reserves as well as the impact of the delay in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill on Nigerian economy.

As part of his continuous contribution to human capacity development in Nigeria, Engr. Dr. Ikwan currently delivers SPE short course to various industry participants on Petroleum Resource Volume and Reserves Evaluation, Classification & Reporting Based on SPE Petroleum Resource Management System. In addition he develops, facilitates discussions and lectures graduate and post graduate students of the Centre of Excellence, University of Benin and Emerald Energy Institute, University of Port Harcourt on World Hydrocarbon Resources, Petroleum Economics and Risk Analysis and Advanced Petroleum Economics Modelling respectively. He has authored and co-authored several technical papers to share knowledge. Engr. Dr. Ikwan is registered with Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and is an active member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, Nigeria Society of Engineers and Nigerian/International Association for Energy Economics. He is happily married to Pastor/Dr. Ebere Ife and their marriage is blessed with four children.
